Abstract: |
In December 2010 an archaeological evaluation was conducted at Queensway Infant School, Thetford, for NPS Property Consultants ahead of works to construct a new extension to the north of the present school complex. The single evaluation trench revealed a thin layer of soil 1.4m below the present ground surface containing fragments of 10th- to 11th-century pottery and other occupation debris. This material was protected by a thick layer of archaeologically sterile subsoil beneath a modern topsoil which in turn had been buried by modern landscaping activity. |
