Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation of land at Micklebring, Church Lane, Great Bircham, was conducted for J.D. and I. Maiden ahead of the development of the land for a single dwelling and its curtilage. The development plot is located close to and just west of St Mary's church. This evaluation produced evidence of two linear archaeological features (a parallel ditch and ditch/furrow) of probable Saxo-Norman to medieval date perhaps representing activity during this time. The subsoil and topsoil deposits indicated a subsequent period of openfield-type arable agriculture with intensive horticultural activity in the modern period. |
