Abstract:		 Watching briefs were kept at several locations throughout the Isle of Islay during excavations associated with the refurbishment of the island's power supply. A large section of underground cable was inserted using a mole plough, this process not being monitored. Short stretches of open trenching were undertaken between Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte and a longer trench monitored through the scheduled monument of An Sidhean. Near Foreland 24 pole trenches for a new overhead line were covered by watching briefs, as were trenches for two single poles at Gartmain and Uiskenie. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered in any of the trenches.
