Abstract:		 Archaeological investigations at Lion Medical Centre, Lowndes Road, Stourbridge, West Midlands (NGR SO 8945 847), comprised an initial evalaution of four trenches followed by monitoring of the groundworks for the complex. The works took place on behalf of The Environmental Dimension Partnership who are acting on behalf of Verlane Limited. The client intended to redevelop the historic ironworks including conversion works to the Grade II* listed Rastrick and Fosters New Foundry. The development site is considered to include heritage assets with archaeological interest, the significance of which may be affected by the application (Listed Building No 576/2/50 and Dudley Historic Environment Record entries HER 1043, 1044, 1047, 4710, 4711, 7240 and 7650). The evaluation phase uncovered structural remains associated with the iron works, including evidence for the tramway which served the iron works, internal floor surfaces, an external yard surface and a outbuildings associated with the Foundry. An undated palaeochannel was also discovered to the north east of the site. Further 19th Century structures were found during the monitoring of the gorundworks.
