Abstract: |
An evaluation by trial trenching on land at Remenham Hill, Berkshire intended to assist with the assesment of the archaeological implications of the construction of a tree lined avenue within the development area. The evaluation is one of a number of investigations ongoing across the site and follows from a geophysical survey which identified a single linear anomaly traversing the line of the avenue. Previous investigations in the immediate vicinity identified the Roman and Iron Age features and field boundaries to the east of the site. The geophysical anomaly was identified as a sunken trackway of probable late medieval or post-medieval date. Other features identified during the investigation included the corner of a ditched enclosure, a modern metalled trackway, a shallow pit and a post-hole of uncertain date. |
