Abstract:		 South West Archaeology Limited was asked to undertake a desk-based assessment of an area of land off Caxton Road on the southern fringe of Frome in Somerset. The documentary and cartographic evidence shows that the site was agricultural in character until the early part of the 20th century, although the surrounding area grew increasingly industrial in nature throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. The development of the printing works on the site in the 1930s has probably affected the survival of potential archaeological deposits but evidence may still be found for the former agricultural landscape or the earlier 20th century buildings on the site.
