Abstract: |
Watching brief undertaken during refurbishment of the overhead electricity line, involving replacement of wooden poles between Slaggyford and Tipalt. Intrusive groundworks at two locations along the route had potential to destroy important remains. The first was near Knarsdale where the route lies close to the line of the Maiden Way Roman road. The second lay to the NNE, where the route passes Eals Bridge lime kiln. Groundworks for pole foundation pits and supports at the lime kiln were monitored. No remains of archaeological significance were recorded. |
