Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of a service trench in the gardens to the south of the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The trenches excavated totalled 265 m in length and exposed long and often remarkably consistent sequences. The earliest evidence would seem to consist of a lower ground surface, perhaps 500 mm below the current level, with possibly associated structural remains, all buried by imported soil and levelling material.
