Abstract:		 PRO Archaeology Services were commissioned by the Belvoir Estate to undertake a post-planning determination archaeological watching brief at Barn Lodge Farm, Saltby Road, Croxton Kerrial, Leicestershire in advance of the proposed construction of four new broiler poultry units (incorporating eight feed silos). This post-determination watching brief was required following an initial pre-planning application archaeological desk based assessment and pre-determination site evaluation. Post-planning determination PRO Archaeology conducted a further evaluation across the development area which had not been covered in the earlier evaluation. It was considered necessary to conduct a watching brief around the discovered Romano-British ditch during construction. A tracked excavator with wide ditching bucket stripped a wide area around the ditch, but no further archaeological deposits were encountered. It would therefore seem that the ditch is an isolated feature, perhaps a field boundary of a Romano-British farm which has yet to be located. A confidence rating is high that the best possible results were achieved.
