Summary of evidence on the topography of the eastern part of the Roman settlement. Waterlogged deposits had preserved some organic materials including timber revetting for watercourses and the lining of wells. A clay-built ?house of mid or later 2nd century contained fragments of wall plaster painted in plain colours.

Excavations on the Site of a Late Bronze Age Settlement at Runnymede Bridge, Egham

[TQ 0171]. The site found at the base of a motorway bank consisted of post holes and stone spreads overlain by midden material. Waterlogging by the Thames had caused eventual abandonment. A selection of artefacts is figured, including a bronze 'button' for harness, antler cheekpieces, tweezers, razor fragment etc. The metalwork fits the Ewart Park phase (8th/7th centuries) and a large quantity of fine and coarse pottery has late Urnfield affiliations. There are broad similarities with Scarborough and Staple Howe but occupation at Runnymede may have ceased before the arrival of Ha C material.
Treasure in the Thames

Expresses concern at the increase in treasure-hunting on the foreshore of the Thames especially at Queenhithe, where large unfilled pits betray this activlty; the London sale catalogues moreover attest its success. The Port of London Authority is about to take some action because damage to the foreshore can be dangerous, but total policing is impossible and the best hope is to encourage the searchers to report their finds and have them properly recorded.
