The Roman Road and the River Regime
Barney Sloane
Hedley Swain
Christopher Thomas
359 - 370
An article drawing together recent work by MoLAS in both areas. `Part 1: the topography of Thorney Island, Westminster' by Chris Thomas (359--63) discusses new evidence for the topography of the island and Tyburn outfall, and its impact on the likely nature of surviving archaeological deposits in that vicinity. `Part 2: a Roman river crossing at Lambeth? The Time Team investigations in Lambeth Palace gardens' by Barney Sloane & Hedley Swain (363--9) is followed by `Part 3: some observations on the route of a Roman crossing', also by Barney Sloane & Hedley Swain (369--70).
Number 1 Poultry - evaluation and Phase 1 excavations
Peter Rowsome
371 - 377
First of a series of reports on work at an important site, detailing the battle for planning permission, assessment and evaluation, the main excavation programme, work at the Late Saxon-style medieval church of St Benet Sherehog, the medieval streets of Pancras Lane and Bucklersbury, The Great Conduit (a thirteenth-century castellated and vaulted cistern), and postulated future work.
Romans in Twickenham
Stewart Hoad
378 - 382
Reports work by MoLAS at Heathcote Road Nursery (Twickenham Bridge) and at the corner of Amyand Park Road and Stafford Road (Twickenham), both in an area previously thought to have a dearth of Roman activity. There are indications of small RB farms and evidence for localised metal working. Further work would shed more light on the RB landscape here.
