The report represents a summary of a study of one hundred and fifteen weights from the off-site spoil of the Vintry site. This represents the largest collection of weights so far extracted from a single site in England, without including the collection from the controlled site area of Vintry. The sample, divided into eight categories, were all used in, or on, balance pans and have parallels with other contemporary trade centres.

The evaluation was a condition of planning consent and the results combined with those from other sites has `pushed back' the date of the earliest prehistoric settlement to the Late Neolithic, associated with land clearance for agricultural landscape. The features excavated were interpreted as a large cooking pit and a prehistoric ditch.

Evaluation revealed a sequence of drift geological deposition including a mixed assemblage reflecting the formation processes. The Mesolithic Thames Pick was found within the colluvium at c39.95m OD.
