The site is re-interpreted as originating in a 40ft diameter round hut with porch, roof supports, and wattle and daub walls. Previously unpublished 'non-Beaker rusticated' ware is illustrated and discussed.

TL 393997. Excavations 1958-64 are reported for a site of exceptional size, status, and length of occupation, which was nonetheless bulldozed flat in 1967. Occupation runs from c 65/75 (an exceptional quantity of pre-Flavian material - post-Boudican fort and vicus?) to about 390. Wool production was the mainstay, along with cattle and other animals. A 3rd century flood interrupted occupation, but stone-based buildings followed, demonstrating unpretentious prosperity.
