The analysis of skeletal remains from one of two stone sarcophagi, unearthed at Gravel Hill, Cambridgeshire in 1861, concluded that they were those of a female some twenty one years of age and approximately five feet tall.

Investigations revealed that this area originated in the fourteenth century AD and that, in the 1860s, the central portion was dismantled and rebuilt. There is also evidence for an earlier thirteenth century north boundary between the town and the monastic precinct.

A survey produced figures that appeared to yield some information but which, when translated into graded shading, did not reveal any discernible pattern. A system using different types of cross--dashing to reflect the value of each figure relative to its immediate neighbours, was used to make the results visually comprehensible.
