Abstract: |
In response to a condition on the planning permission for a new extension at 370 Hitchin Road, Luton, Bedfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the Robert Parr to undertake the archaeological monitoring of the development groundworks. Foundations for the new extension, two low rise walls and a soakaway were excavated through a layer of overburden and into the natural clay, which had occasional flint inclusions. The ground level in the northern area of the site was reduced by up to 0.30m to form a new car parking area. The remains of a brick structure, constructed of modern bricks, were revealed during ground reductions. No archaeological features, deposits, or artefacts were encountered during the work. |
