Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation consisting of 46 trenches undertaken at Priors Hall, Corby, Northamptonshire as part of a detalied planning application for mixed-use development of the site. The work took place in Blocks 2 and 3 of Zone 1. Recent excavation in the southeastern part of Zone 1 have identified probable Iron-age to Romano-British iron working and settlement. Trenches were excavated over geophysical anomolies and within 'blank' areas of the site to test the integrity of a former geophysical survey. A sparse distribution of archaeogical remains were identified including several undated ditches (probable furrows), a former boundary and two small pits containing charcoal in the central and northernmost part of Blocks 2 and 3. Trenches excavated in the southern part of the site revealed an undated ditch to the north of a Scheduled Roman villa site and a Romano-British ditch to the east of the site. The results of the investigation did not confirm those of the earlier geophysical survey. |
