Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken in November and December 2010 on the excavation of a new access road and topsoil stripping for a new dwelling at Foggy Bottom Holiday Park, Brompton View, Churchstoke, Shropshire. In July 2011, a further watching brief was undertaken on the excavation of a length of service run. Part of the application area lies within the Scheduled Monument of Roman Camps, NW of Brompton Mill, including Tumulus and Section of Offa's Dyke. The watching brief exposed a total of fifteen features (pits, post holes and linear features), all of which were subsequently preserved in situ. Two sherds of Roman domestic pottery were recovered from the upper fills of two of the pits, and a Roman date is suggested for all of these features. |
