Abstract: |
As the result of the application of archaeological conditions on the planning permission for the proposed construction of a dining hall building at Northwood Preparatory School, Moor Park, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, The Heritage Network was commissioned by the school to undertake an archaeological evaluation in advance of the start of construction work. No significant archaeological features were exposed in the six test pits and three trial trenches excavated across the present site, and no evidence that might contribute meaningfully to its defined research potential. The only deposit revealed was a post-medieval demolition layer covered by a modern soil layer. This had been buried below up to 1.2m of imported clay that had been use to raise the level of the site. This was covered by modern topsoil. On the basis of these results, the risk that the development might disturb significant archaeological remains of is considered to be Low for all periods. |
