Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Limited at the former Middlesex Hospital Annexe along Cleveland Street, London Borough of Camden during the excavation of six test pits. The study area is on the site of the Covent Garden Workhouse established in the last quarter of the 18th century. Towards the front (southwest) of the site a large portion of the 18th century workhouse building survives (Grade II listed). The watching brief recorded buried structural remains of two of the 19th century ancillary buildings associated with the workhouse. In addition to this a narrow vaulted brick feature backed with disarticulated human bone was also partially uncovered. |
