Abstract: |
South West Archaeology Ltd. was commissioned by Mr. Paul Rogers to undertake a series of evaluation trenches in the area of a proposed grain store at Croft Farm, West Charleton in the South Hams, Devon. The work was carried out as part of the application for the development, and targeted anomalies identified in a geophysical survey undertaken by Substrata in 2016. The site is located within what is now a single large arable field located to east of Croft Farm, which is located on the south-east edge of the village of West Charleton. On historic maps this large field was formerly subdivided into four, although only one of these removed historic field boundaries falls within the proposal area. The southern part of the proposal site also formed part of a pick-your-own car park, etc. in the late 20th century. |
