Abstract: |
Five 30 x 1.60 metre trenches were excavated revealing archaeological remains in the form of Medieval plot boundary ditches orientated roughly east to west. Also an earlier north to south ditch was found. These ditches seem to continue the trend from previous evaluation to the south (Jarvis, W., 20140. However few finds were recovered apart from a single sherd of Midland purple pottery compared to the evaluation directly to the south. The three east to west ditches found were heavily truncated. They appear to be plot boundary ditches fronting Measham road. The trenches had to re-positioned due to the extreme wetness of the ground with the furrows being exceptionally wet therefore all five trenches were positioned east to west along the tops of the ridges. The ditches were preserved by the ridges and probably represent remains of the village which shrank probably after the Black Death. |
