Abstract: |
AOC Archaeology Group was commissioned by Roger Coulthard to undertaken an historic building record of 18a/18c Jamaica Street Lane (North) in Edinburgh as part of an archaeological planning condition on the intended renovation of the building to form a new dwelling. The building was probably constructed at the same time as the house at No 5 Royal Circus acting as its mews building as part of the New Town development of Edinburgh in the early 19th century. The building was later raised at some point to create accommodation to the first floor level, with the insertion of two dormer windows and a fireplace. A central partition was later removed to create an open-plan workshop. No further historic building survey is considered necessary prior to development, although this will need to be confirmed by the CEC Archaeology Service on behalf of the CEC. |
