Abstract: |
Planning permission was granted by Gloucester City Council for the erection of a two storey extension at the above property. The proposed development site is located within an area of previously known Roman period settlement and burial activity. Human burials, pits and ditches, as well as small finds, of Roman date were identified during excavations in the area in 1983 and a watching brief was therefore required as a condition of planning consent. No archaeological finds or features were identified within the monitored area, and the absence of any surviving subsoil suggests that the natural deposits may have been subjected to a degree of truncation, probably related to previous landscaping works, but also potentially during the 1983 excavations. |
