Abstract: |
Due to the unauthorised disturbance of an area of ground within the designated scheduled monument boundary of Lilleshall Abbey (Scheduled Monument 1015286), Hereford Archaeology (UK) Ltd were commissioned by Historic England, to undertake a programme of archaeological observation, investigation, and recording, to examine and evaluate the impact from the unauthorised works. The examination of the unauthorised works at Abbey Farm identified that an archaeological feature of uncertain characteristics and date was truncated by the action of the unauthorised excavations. The observation of the unauthorised works also identified a change in the characteristics of the stratigraphic makeup of the area, suggesting that it is possible that part of the area was subject to historic ploughing. |
