Abstract: |
Six heritage assets were identified in the wider area around the site. The impact on any on site unknown buried archaeological assets cannot be defined. The greatest potential impact of any development would be on the battlefield site of the Battle of Bannockburn and a former medieval deer park. The proposed development site is an undeveloped part of the medieval deer park of New Park, and as such may contain buried features relating to the conflict. It is recognised that the land is located in a seemingly less sensitive area of the battlefield site and not in one of the more key locations considered to be central to the outcome of the Battle of Bannockburn. Furthermore, the proposed development site is clearly visible from the category A features at the National Trust complex at the Bannockburn visitor centre. A metal detector survey will take place across the site, to help to identify more fully, the archaeological potential of the proposed development site. C Peters 2015. |
