Abstract: |
The site lies at the northern end of the historic village of Kersey, within a Conservation Zone, and close to the 13th-century Augustinian priory. Two evaluation trenches on the sites of a proposed cart-lodge and a pool revealed a modern foundation and three modern pits. There were residual medieval sherds in the topsoil and a modern pit, showing that there may have been some medieval activity on this site prior to the building of the current house. Peg-tile and coal fragments in the layer sealing natural ground supports the idea that there has been some recent site levelling here. |
