Abstract: |
Six evaluation trenches were excavated on land associated with the former railway club at Broad Green, Wellingborough. Several postholes in the north-western corner of the site have been dated to the medieval period and indicate a discrete focus of activity probably contiguous with similarly dated features found immediately to the north of the current site. At the north-eastern corner of the site two parallel ditches mark the former course of Outlaw Lane. Pottery from one of the ditches suggests that silting of the ditch may have begun in the medieval period. Elsewhere on site, there has been considerable disturbance from 19th century quarrying and groundworks associated with the construction of the railway club buildings in the late 20th century. |
