Abstract: |
Five trial trenches were excavated, each measuring 5 m squared. No significant archaeological deposits were recorded from any of the trenches. Until the early 19th century the site lay partly within the river bed of the south course of the Eden, and partly on sandbanks known as the sands, an area upon which Carlisle Cattle Market was situated.
