Abstract:
Building survey conducted prior to the conversion of two disused two-storey barns for residential use. The barns and farmhouse are Listed Grade II. One barn is attached to the farmhouse and forms an L-shaped range dating to the mid-18th century date. The farmhouse has a reused lintel above the main doorway bearing the date 1667, suggesting there was an earlier farmhouse on the site. The adjacent barn has a datestone of 1859. The survey found both barns provided accommodation for cattle and horses on the ground floor, with space for the storage of hay above. A small threshing area was identified in the earlier barn located beneath a projecting porch over the doorway, where the interior was open to the roof to allow for the swing of the flail.
