Abstract:
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. The assessment revealed that there were no archaeological sites recorded within the boundaries of the site, but a number were known in the surrounding area. The site was situated close to the west side of the historic town of Oakham and comprised an area of probably relatively undisturbed ground. A number of sites of the prehistoric and Roman periods were known in the area and the site offered good potential for the study of remains of this period and overall the site was considered to offer good archaeological potential.
