Abstract:
A desk-based assessment of the proposed route of a bypass identified that four archaeological sites lay within a corridor extending for 100m to either side of the proposed road, all of which could extend into the actual route. Iron Age and Romano-British features and finds had been recorded outside this corridor. Sites within 100m consisted of undated cropmarks, a Romano-British settlement and scatters of Romano-British pottery, possibly indicating a second settlement. Fieldwalking and geophysical survey were recommended, and it was noted that subsequent trial trenching of some sites could be necessary. [AIP]
