Abstract:
Apart from the two segments of route that were surfaced, the remaining existing routes all caused some degree of erosion and truncation to the ground surface. Continued use of these routes would have an increasingly detrimental effect on the preservation of any affected earthworks as well as the preservation of potential sub-surface archaeology. The worst affected areas of earthworks were in segments E15, which was also damaging Five Knolls SAM and routes E8 and E9 which were damaging earthworks B and C. Continued use of these routes and resulting scarring may also have detracted from the setting of any earthworks in the vicinity of the routes. [Au(abr)]
