Abstract: |
Archaeological observation of the topsoil strip of a new quarry site revealed a number of prehistoric pits, two cremations and a series of features that were dated to the 1st century AD. These included a Roman road, a possible building and a variety of boundary features possibly associated with Roman military settlement on the site. A drying kiln, a possible four post feature and numerous pits and post holes, associated with the Flavian-Trajanic periods were recorded in the Phase 2, as well as three Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age pits.
