Abstract: |
A watching brief took place during the installation of a support system for the bridge. During this work a stone bearing the date 1749 together with the builders' names was found in the bed of Kex Beck. What appeared to be a cruck timber was also found some 10m downstream from the bridge. The arch itself was of interest, several of the stones appeared to be reused from an earlier structure possibly a masonry bridge. Beneath the modern road surface, the fill of the bridge appeared to have been undisturbed since the 18th century. [Au(abr)] |
