Abstract: |
The watching brief monitored work during the excavation of trenches for services and the reduction of ground levels. The site had been disturbed by relatively modern groundworks, but some useful archaeological observations were made. The trenches within the eastern courtyard confirmed the presence of a substantial medieval ditch, possibly a property boundary and the trench from the western courtyard into Masonic Lane exposed deposits associated with a possible former cobbled yard surface. The stripping of the eastern courtyard exposed a post-medieval well, modified to take a lead pipe and traces of a possible structure associated with it. [Au(adp)] |
