Abstract: |
An archaeological excavation and watching brief at Knaresborough Bus Station revealed a number of cut features including post holes and pits sealed by a 'garden' soil of later medieval and perhaps post-medieval date. These earlier features were probably medieval, although not all of them contained datable artefacts. The garden soil was presumably related to plots of land fronting the High Street and developed through the later medieval period and perhaps into the post-medieval period. During the 18th century the site was terraced for the construction of several buildings, fronting onto and to the rear of, High Street. [Au(abr)] |
