Abstract: |
Despite deep cellaring from the onsite factory development, two areas contained important, well preserved archaeological remains. In the northern part of the site structural remains indicative of a street frontage of the medieval or post-medieval period were revealed less than half a metre below the ground surface. Backyard activities were also represented, as well as evidence for 1st/2nd century AD Roman occupation. The southern area of the site showed evidence for 12th/13th century structures and pitting, as well as stone cellars. Roman occupation activity and isolated medieval pits or wells were also evident.
