Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring took place during groundworks for a temporary sculpture known as 'Ajar', on the lawned area to the southwest of St Botolph's Church. This forms part of Sculpture in the City 2016, the City's annual public art programme. The groundworks involved the hand-digging of a pit measuring 1.7m NNE-SSW and 1.6m WNW-ESE to a depth of 150mm (c.15.85mOD). Only a rooty subsoil was exposed below the turf and no finds or obstructions were encountered. A sand and shingle base for the sculpture and turf was then relaid. |
