Abstract: |
The Herefordshire Archaeology and Minerals Resource Assessment Project aimed to put in place a Herefordshire county wide archaeology and minerals resource assessment in fulfillment of National Heritage Protection Plan Measure 2 (Threat Assessment and Response), Topic 2D4 (Mineral Extraction Impacts), Activity 2D4 (Minerals Extraction Impacts). This was carried out in order to inform future strategic planning of mineral extraction in the county of Herefordshire with respect to heritage assets and to contribute to the delivery of the West Midlands Archaeological Research Framework. The work consisted of GIS mapping of past, present and projected future minerals extraction/potential, GIS linked HER data enhancement incorporating new Air Photo mapping and Lidar interpretation layers for the defined minerals areas, heritage significance and impact assessment including consideration of current LDF minerals extraction forward planning, and preparation of policy recommendations and outreach material. |
