Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation and watching brief was undertaken by Pre-Construct Archaeology Ltd on behalf of CgMs Consulting at Blackwall Reach Phase 1B, London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The archaeological investigation was conducted in two phases. Phase 1 took the form of a watching brief upon the removal of concrete hard-standing and foundations. Phase 2, commenced directly after the conclusion of Phase 1 comprising the excavation of a single targeted evaluation trench targeted within the footprint of the proposed new development. The watching brief and evaluation revealed a Victorian well and cess pit cut into alluvial layers that were formed within a possible east-west aligned palaeo-channel. |
