Brean Down Excavations 1989 and 1991
Martin G Bell
Interim report summarising work at Brean Down in 1989 and 1991. In 1989 six burials of sub-Roman date were excavated and further Iron Age and Bronze Age deposits explored. The extent of the Bronze Age activity was established by soil pit and auger survey. In 1991 further soil pits established that late and middle Bronze Age deposits underlay virtually the whole of an area of proposed redevelopment to the south of previous investigation at Brean Down.
Goldcliff Excavation 1991
Martin G Bell
Two rectangular Iron Age buildings revealed by storm erosion were excavated and other archaeology on the peat shelf recorded.

Second Severn Crossing Welsh Approaches Intertidal Zone

Rick Turner
A programme of fieldwork arose out of the assessment and the mitigating measures outlined in the Environmental Statement accompanying the Severn Bridges Bill put before Parliament in November 1990. The aims of the fieldwork were to survey in detail all the land to be acquired as part of the crossing scheme. The sites investigated can be divided into three major categories: post settings, woven or hurdling structures, and alignments of horizontal timbers.

Caldicot Castle Lake
Nigel Nayling
A further season of investigation has refined the phasing of the Bronze Age sequence at Caldicot Castle.
Second Severn Cross, English Approaches Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment
Jonathan Parkhouse
Work was directed ay a number of sites of either archaeological or palaeoenvironmental interest identified in earlier phases of study. The most important result was the discovery and partial characterisation of areas of Iron Age and Romano-British activity. Different sites and locations appear to have been in use at different times, and the site density is greater than previously realised.
Excavations at Newton Moor, South Glamorgan: an Interim Statement
Mark Redknap
The discovery of a silver penannular brooch and pin of Early Medieval type prompted geophysical survey and the excavation of two trenches. The finds were thought to be the result of casual loss in the boggy moor along the river Thaw.
The Somerset Levels in the Roman Period
Stephen J Rippon
The evidence for Roman occupation and alluviation in the area from Brent Knoll to Burnham-on-Sea is reviewed and discussed.
Second Severn Crossing, English Approaches Palaeoenvironmental Assessment
Vanessa Straker
The biological potential of a number of archaeological sites and associated palaeoenvironmental sequences in the bridgehead area and route of access roads were assessed. The potential for further work on palaeoenvironmental sequences and land-use history from the third millennium BC onwards was demonstrated.
