Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the excavation of small trenches to allow the installation of new gates in the wall to the SW of the castle (NO 1287 0458) and in the fence to the E (NO 1291 0459). The excavations showed that both areas had been subject to later alteration, but retains in situ - potentially historic - deposits below the landscaping layers. Further ground-breaking works should therefore be similarly monitored. |
