Abstract: |
A section of rotted flooring was to be replaced inside the S door to the W Tower of Huntingtower Castle A section of the floorboards had already been lifted to ascertain depth. The floor was recorded in this condition and again when the boards were cut out. The floor was a mixture of modern joinery and recycled, powdery pieces of timber riddled with woodworm. A reduced late-15th/early 16th-century wall was uncovered on the same line as the S wall of the W Tower. It transpired that the current S door was originally a 17th-century window that was converted into a doorway at a later date. |
