Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological works was required by Ogilvie Homes Ltd in respect to the consented development at Annick Road, Irvine, North Ayrshire (15/006344/PPPM). The archaeological works were designed to mitigate the impact on the archaeological remains within the development area. No significant archaeological remains were uncovered. The features identified related to attempts to improve the drainage of the ground during its use as agricultural land during the 18th to 20th centuries, and, in more recent times, during its use as a golf course for the adjacent hotel. The presence of one sherd of Scottish post-medieval oxidised ware recovered from the topsoil suggests that the agricultural use of the land may have origins that date back to the 16th century. |
