Abstract:
A desk-based assessment for the historic environment was undertaken at Walcot Meadow, Walcot Lane, Drakes Broughton, Worcestershire (NGR SO 9294 4839). It was undertaken on behalf of Crown House Developments Ltd, who intend to construct 32 dwellings for which an outline planning application has been submitted. This report describes and assesses the significance of the heritage assets (and potential heritage assets) that are potentially affected by the application. The setting of heritage assets is considered. The potential impact of the application, and the need for further on-site evaluation, is assessed. There are no designated heritage assets within the site and its surroundings and very few undesignated heritage assets. A large area of Ailstone Member sand and gravels covers the north part of the site which has the potential to yield Palaeolithic deposits. The site is also potentially on the edge of the medieval settlement of 'Broctune' which was mentioned in the Domesday survey but has since shrunk or been deserted.
