Abstract:
Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the construction of a flood alleviation scheme to the north-west of Longford. Eight cremation burials of probable Middle to Late Bronze Age date were recorded, four of which appeared to be associated with a group of four post holes and three pits nearby. One cremation burial was located within and two others were near to a small ditched enclosure, within which eight post holes (of a total of 23) appeared to form a small round house. Gullies and boundary ditches earlier, contemporaneous with and later than the enclosure were also recorded. Two partial inhumation burials, one human and one bovine, of Late Bronze Age to earlier Iron Age date, were found in two of four pits cut into the fills of the earlier boundary ditches.
