Abstract: |
Sixty trial trenches and ten test pits were targeted over features identified by a previous geophysical survey(ECB2900). A main north-south palaeochannel was identified with a second running off it, probably dating to the Pleistocene/Holocene period. A hollow and a well containing burnt flint is dated to the Early Bronze Age. Middle Bronze Age Settlement and associated field system was identified to the west of the palaeochannel, including ring ditches and post holes. Middle-Late Iron Age features were present leading into the Early Roman period. Settlement features have been linked to this period. There is an isolated Saxon sunken featured building, and in the medieval and post-medieval periods the site was largely under cultivation. |
