Abstract: |
During June 2006 Oxford archaeology had excavated ten 1X1m Test-pits and 11 hand augered boreholes on the farmer site of Towles Mill on Hinksey Stream, Oxford, NGR SP517 039. The Environmental agency are proposing to construct a flood alleviation scheme at site. the work was requested, and specified in a brief written by Steve Keep, Archaeologist for the environment Agency and was prompted by documentary and cartographic work detailed in the main body of this report. The works had clear objective to inform on the presence, nature and date of archaeological remain in the area of the proposed channel-widening scheme. Evidence of the 14th century mill was found |
