Abstract: |
A desk based assessment was carried out by Archaeological Services Durham University during July 2012 on behalf of The Northumberland Estates in advance of a proposed development at Lloyd's Field, south-east of Alnwick, within Denwick parish. The area assessed is roughly rectangular in plan and covers about 1.2ha, being assessed for the purposes of a static caravan park. No direct evidence was recorded for any prehistoric or Roman period activity to be encountered in any development of the area - whilst the area lay outside the medieval settlement of Alnwick. The proposed development has the potential to impact upon any archaeological remains present through ground reduction, the construction of foundations and associated service trench excavations. Geophysical surveying of the area is recommended, as well as trial trenching, if the application is to be pursued. |
