Abstract: |
Northamptonshire Archaeology conducted a trial trench evaluation on land at Tollemache Road, Spittlegate, Grantham, Lincolnshire during September 2008. Twenty-one trenches, totalling 420m in length, were excavated within the 16ha application area following an initial geophysical survey. A small number of features were uncovered including three ditches, a possible Iron Age smelting furnace and a possible oven within an Iron Age enclosure of the 3rd - 1st century BC. Pottery and metalworking debris was recovered. |
